Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival
Concerts on August 10th and 11th will showcase such masterpieces as the Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata with Bion Tsang, the Schubert Trout Quintet with violinist Andrés Cárdenes and bassist Stephen Swanson, and George Crumb’s Voice of the Whale. Martin Chalifour will give a centennial performance of the Debussy Violin Sonata and saxophonist Timothy McAllister, flutist Lorna McGhee and British clarinetist Michael Collins play the beautiful Schumann Fairy Tales. The August 13th Outdoor Concert on the Village Green features the original Paul Whiteman band version of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with soloist Jon Kimura Parker, and The Miró Quartet performs the Brahms Clarinet Quintet with Michael Collins and Schubert Cello Quintet with Desmond Hoebig.

August 9 – The adventure begins! We’ll travel together from the Seattle Airport to Anacortes for dinner and overnight at The Majestic Inn and Spa
August 10 – After breakfast, we’ll ferry across to Orcas Island for lunch, then attend the 5:30 Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival concert. Post-concert dinner with the artists is at The Inn at Ship’s Bay.
August 11 – Lots of options today. Enjoy OICMF rehearsals, sample from a wide array of water sports, explore the island (we’ll have our own private vans and drivers) or head to Doe Bay Festival where stages are filled from 11am to 11pm with all genres of music (mostly Indie rock and Indie folk music). A 3-day Doe Bay Festival pass is included in your stay. That evening, we’ll attend a pre-concert lecture and 7:30pm Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival concert. Post-concert dinner with artists is at New Leaf Restaurant at Outlook Inn.
August 12 – Saturday you’re free to enjoy the Doe Bay Festival, or explore the island. Group dinner at the Doe Bay Inn is planned.
August 13 – Return to the Doe Bay Festival, or take part in group lunch and island tour. Cocktails and appetizers precede an outdoor concert featuring Jon Kimura Parker and Martin Chalifour (among others) followed by dinner.
August 14 – We’ll attend a private Artists’ Picnic on the Beach hosted by an OICMF board member. The evening is free to enjoy on your own.
August 15 – Ferry back to Anacortes, enroute to the Seattle Airport.
