2017 Festival Orchestra: Christopher Pell

Christopher Pell, clarinet

Christopher Pell is currently the Principal Clarinetist of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, assuming the position in 2012 at the age of 21. As an orchestral clarinetist, Christopher has performed with The Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, served as principal with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (Mexico City) for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, performed with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra as guest Principal Clarinet, and with the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra. He appeared as a soloist with The LPO in February of 2013 when he stepped in at a moment’s notice to perform the Copland Clarinet Concerto. Mr. Pell has also performed as soloist with The Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, The U.S. Army Band at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall, and The Long Island Sound Symphony. He has won first prize in the Vandoren Emerging Artists Competition and the International Clarinet Association High School Competition. Christopher’s performance of L’Histoire Du Soldat, with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Chamber Series, was selected as the Big Easy’s Best Chamber Music Performance of 2014 and his chamber ensemble, Nola 360, was nominated for the same prize just a year before. As a chamber musician, Mr. Pell has performed with the Twickenham Music Festival, The Orlando Chamber Soloists, The Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, NOLA 360, and the Lake George Music Festival.  Christopher graduated from The Juilliard School in 2013 as a full-scholarship student of Jon Manasse and has twice been a fellow at The Tanglewood Music Center.
