John Wilds, trumpet
John Wilds, a native of Seattle, Washington received his first musical training from his father on the great highland bagpipes. Later, John’s musical training took him to Central Washington University and Indiana University where he studied with Louis Davidson and Allan Dean. In 1988 John Wilds joined the trumpet section of the San Diego Symphony where he holds the post of Opera Principal/Second Trumpet. Outside of the San Diego Symphony, John has been Principal Trumpet of the New Mexico Symphony, the Mississippi Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Associate Principal of the Orquestra Metropoltana de Lisboa, Second Trumpet at the Santa Fe Opera and a frequent substitute in the Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony.
John M. Wilds’ academic associations currently are as Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at San Diego State University, University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University. John is the trumpet coach for Rancho Bernardo High School and member of the Westwind Brass Quintet. John is the author of Basics of Trumpet Performance.
