Intermediate Strings Instructor
Robyn Glasson, String Instructor for the Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra, is a professional musician, band program administrator and music educator.
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Ms. Glasson started the violin at age 9 and viola at age 13. She was section leader of various local and national youth orchestras in South Africa, principal viola of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at Interlochen Art’s Camp, Michigan and a member of the London Youth Symphony Orchestra’s viola section. While completing her BMus degree at Stellenbosch Conservatory, she began to play in professional orchestras in South Africa including the Cape Town Symphony Orchestra, Cape Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Chamber Orchestra of South Africa, appearing as soloist with the latter two. In 1997 Robyn Glasson moved to San Diego and played full time in the viola section of the San Diego Symphony for several years. She also served as Principal viola of the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and has played in the violin and viola sections of San Diego Opera, Long Beach Opera, Classics 4 Kids Orchestra and the Starlight Opera Orchestra.
As a music educator Ms Glasson has maintained a large private teaching studio, served as a viola and violin coach for the Poway Unified School District and currently works as assistant band director for the Solana Beach School District.
In addition to performing and teaching, Ms Glasson manages the Solana Beach School District Band Program – an after school program currently serving 130 fourth through sixth grade students.
